Lucca to Assisi
Route
Setting off from Lucca, we meander through vineyards and olive groves en route to medieval San Miniato, halfway between Pisa and Florence. Moving on, we take in the tiny, ancient village of Grassina, negotiating rolling slopes and soaring climbs.
Climbing the high mountain pass of the Scopetone, we admire sprawling meadows of wildflowers, then move on to Umbrian town of Città di Castello, to soak up some art and culture. Take in the fortress at Umbertide, before we reach our final destination – Assisi.

Trail Highlights
Immerse yourself in 20th Century history as you pedal the ancient streets, rolling hills and twisting country roads of our Lucca-Assisi cycling holiday tour.
Follow some of the roads ridden by Italian cycling champ Gino Bartali, who defied the Nazis to save many Jewish lives during WW2. In fact, the Mayor of Assisi will take us on a personal tour, showing us the tunnels beneath the city’s basilica where fleeing Jews hid.
